Through the Blue Circle initiative, NSG and its partners wants to give back to the goldsmithing industry. The grants can be used for everything from further education, buying tools to supporting one’s own business.

One of the latest recipients of the Blue Circle funding is Finnish goldsmith Ella Jumisko. She will use the grant to further develop her own brand and building her own goldsmith’s workshop.

Why did you want to become a goldsmith?

– I started making jewelry simply because I wanted a new hobby. So, I enrolled in a silver jewelry course at Porvoo Adult Education Centre, and from the very first evening I knew that jewelry making was something I truly wanted to pursue. I immediately started researching jewelry schools in Finland and began my professional studies in August 2011, says Ella.

Can you tell me a little about your education?

– I studied at Salpaus Further Education in Lahti, Finland and graduated in 2014. During my studies, I spent three unforgettable months in Valle, Norway, in an exchange program focused on filigree technique. After graduating, I worked both as an entrepreneur and as an employed goldsmith and I completed my master goldsmith’s degree in 2023.

What are you doing today?

– Today I walk my path as an entrepreneur, I collaborate as subcontractor for several jewelry houses, while simultaneously breathing life into my own creations under my personal brand. I create fine jewelry that is inspired by nature’s magic and fairytales.

What will you use the sponsorship for?

– I am currently building my own goldsmith’s workshop, and I will use the sponsorship to acquire tools I still need, such as bezel blocks, goldsmith’s hammers, ring mandrels, work lights, and other small equipment.

What is your plan regarding your goldsmith career?

– My goal is to build my own brand, and I wish to share my creations with admirers across the world. And one day, perhaps, to open the doors of my very own jewelry boutique, a space where every visitor finds something enchanting and unique.

We wish Ella the best of luck with the workshop and we hope to continue to see many fantastic pieces of jewelry. Read more about Ella on her website and be inspired by her jewelry on her Instagram.
